Universal Health & Rehabilitation was founded in March 2000. The Mission was building a facility that housed the finest health care disciplines all under one roof. Since that time, the independent providers at the facility have provided health care services to thousands of satisfied patients. Our philosophy is to focus our attention on healing and strengthening the body. We believe that every person has been given the innate ability to heal itself, and by focusing on the principles of health, the body will be in the best position for that innate healing ability to manifest to the highest possible degree.
The principles of health and not practices, but tried and true principles that will help everyone, and that are good for everyone. These include the physical, nutritional and emotional components, or what we call the Triad of Health.
In order to improve physical health, you must start with getting back to the basics. Our physical body is the house upon which we live, and some of our houses need renovation. The best way to accomplish this is to make sure that the joints of our body are moving freely with a full range of motion, and that those joints are supported by strong and balanced muscles. To accomplish this, we will offer a variety of health care disciplines all focused on improving joint motion and strengthening the surrounding musculature. Chiropractic is the #1 alternative and complementary health care discipline in the world and is primarily focused on improving joint motion. A healthy joint is a moveable joint, and Chiropractors are specifically trained to identify the loss of joint motion, and use natural, safe, and painless methods to restore proper joint motion. Chiropractic is so safe, and Chiropractors pay the lowest malpractice premium of any physician and undergo 8 years of education to earn the title of Doctor of Chiropractic. Getting the joints moving is half the battle. The other half is making sure that the supporting muscle is strong, balanced, and under good neurologic control. That is where physical therapy comes in. Our physical therapy facility has over 3,000 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment to help get your body strong. Our therapists are motivated to help you get back in action and help your body move better and feel better. Massage Therapy is another modality which can help the body heal itself faster. Not only is it great for stress reduction and pain relief, but it also causes physical changes to the soft tissue including increase circulation, which speeds the recovery process. Finally, Acupuncture is an age-old technique used to reduce pain naturally, without the use of chemicals or drugs. This drug free approach has been proven to reduce pain, as well as improve and restore the body’s natural healing ability. These holistic and natural methods are all geared to improve the physical function of the body by improving range of motion, increasing circulation, strengthening and balancing the surrounding muscles. However, there are times when medical intervention is necessary. At Universal Health, we offer medical pain management to help patients reduce the pain associated with neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
Although physical health is important, it is equally important to address nutritional health. It won’t matter if you work out every day if you don’t put the correct fuel in your body, or you override your body with harmful toxins or chemicals. Through the miraculous process of digestion, the substance of our bodies is made up of what we put into our bodies. If we eat junk, our cells will become junk, and our body’s ability to heal itself will be compromised. All the practitioners at Universal Health believe that it is important to make sure you are eating the right foods for your body. We believe that one diet is not right for all people, and that individualized nutrition plans work best. One of the ways this is accomplished is making sure that our patients are eating right based on their blood types. Different blood types respond differently to different proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the body. So we can tailor a nutritional plan based on your blood type, to reduce inflammation and auto-immune diseases, which are triggered by digesting the wrong proteins compatible with your specific blood type. Of course, there are certain commonalities that are good for everyone. This includes reducing the toxic load on the body by reducing the amount of toxins you put into your body. Things like smoking, alcohol, chemical additives and preservatives can overload your body and impair its ability to heal itself.
Not to be overlooked, in order to be truly healthy, we need to address the emotional component. Being physically fit and eating right is great. But if you are burdened down with stinking thinking such as anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, anxiety, fear and stress, your body will never be fully healthy. The Scriptures declare that “For as he thinketh in is heart, so is he”. Just like our foods make up the substance are raw materials of our body, our thoughts are equally as powerful. For every thought in the mind, a chemical is produced in the body, and that chemical carries out specific functions of the body. So, if you have all this stressful thinking in our minds, our cells and organs will produce stress chemicals, which will carry out a stress response. This fight or flight response is good in some situations but is not a state that we want to live in all the time. This leads to inflammation, cortisol production, chronic fatigue and a host of other problems like increased blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, delayed healing and more. We must learn to reduce stress in our lives by replacing worry with faith. All the health care disciplines located at Universal Health work on reducing stress and tension in the body. It is well-documented that one of the best ways to reduce stress is regular exercise and good nutrition. We will also help by offering stress reducing counselling sessions, Bible studies, and positive affirmations to help you on your journey.
This Triad of Health is the foundation of true health in our lives. At Universal Health we adhere to the hold fast to the quote by Thomas Edison which states, “The Doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease”. Practices come and go, but principles last forever. By adhering to the principles of a strong body, good nutrition, and reducing stress, we can allow the healing power in the body to manifest to the highest degree. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and our Creator has built into each one of us the ability to heal itself. It is our job to assist the body, so that it can be at ease. When the body is not at ease, that is when dis-ease takes over. We are dedicated to helping you be the best version of you and live an abundant life.
